I Don't Know What 'The Acolyte' is Supposed to Be, and I Don't Think Disney Does Either

You remember the end of Watchmen, when Nite Owl II drops to his knees and howls in frustration?

That perfectly sums up my reaction to The Acolyte.

To be fair—it's only a trailer, and trailers are notorious liars. Remember how the Avengers: Infinity War trailer showed our heroes charging an unseen foe at the head of a Wakandan army? The army isn't there in the movie. Neither is Hulk, because Hulk isn't actually in Infinity War. Head meet fake.

You can't trust anything you see in a trailer, but they tend to be a reliable indicator of tone. And the vibe coming from The Acolyte is YA trope city. It feels like The Phantom Menace minus John Williams, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Darth Maul (i.e. the good stuff).
